P&S Iron Buster: The Color-Changing Iron Remover Detailers Reach For

P&S Iron Buster is a professional iron and fallout decontamination spray from the Renny Doyle Double Black Collection. Engineered with advanced chelation chemistry that turns purple on contact with iron particles, it dissolves bonded brake dust, rail dust, fallout and ferrous contamination from wheels and painted surfaces without acid, without mechanical agitation and without harsh fumes.

Every panel of a daily-driven vehicle carries embedded iron particles you cannot see with the naked eye. These cause clear coat oxidation, paint roughness and that gritty feel when you run your hand over a washed surface. Iron Buster lifts them in minutes, leaving paint and wheels chemically clean and ready for the next step in your detail workflow.

Why Detailers Trust Iron Buster

  • Color-changing chemistry: turns purple as it reacts with iron particles, giving visual confirmation that decontamination is happening in real time.
  • Acid-free and pH-neutral: safe on clear coat, single-stage paint, ceramic coatings, wheels, glass and trim.
  • Works in minutes: dwell time of 3 to 5 minutes is enough to dissolve most bonded contamination, no scrubbing needed.
  • Pre-clay decontamination: dissolves iron chemically before you reach for the clay bar, dramatically reducing the work clay has to do.
  • Multi-surface: use on painted body panels, wheels, glass, plastic trim and chrome.
  • Made in USA: P&S Detail Products, Renny Doyle Double Black Collection.

How to Use P&S Iron Buster

For wheels:

  1. Rinse the wheel thoroughly to remove loose dirt.
  2. Spray Iron Buster generously onto a cool wheel, covering both face and barrel.
  3. Wait 3 to 5 minutes. The product will turn purple as iron particles dissolve.
  4. Agitate with a soft wheel brush, paying attention to spokes and inner barrel.
  5. Rinse thoroughly with high pressure water until the wheel runs clear.

For paint (pre-clay decontamination step):

  1. Wash and rinse the vehicle thoroughly. The paint must be clean before applying Iron Buster.
  2. Spray Iron Buster onto a cool, shaded section of paint, panel by panel.
  3. Wait 3 to 5 minutes. Watch the product turn purple where iron is being dissolved.
  4. Rinse off thoroughly with a strong water stream. Do not let the product dry on the paint.
  5. Follow with clay bar treatment for any remaining mechanical contamination, then polish or wax as desired.

Important: never apply to a hot wheel or hot paint. Let surfaces cool first. Avoid direct sunlight during application.

Pro tip: Iron Buster works best in spring and autumn when atmospheric fallout accumulates fastest. Two iron-decontamination sessions per year keep your clear coat measurably healthier and your ceramic coatings performing longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does iron contamination look like?
On wheels, iron contamination appears as small orange or black specks bonded to the surface, especially around brake calipers. On paint, you typically cannot see iron particles, but you can feel them as a gritty texture when running your hand over a washed surface. The color-change reaction with Iron Buster confirms their presence.

Where does Iron Buster fit in the detailing workflow?
After washing, before clay bar. The standard sequence is: foam pre-soak, two-bucket wash, rinse, Iron Buster decontamination, rinse, clay bar (for any remaining bonded contamination), then polish or wax.

Is Iron Buster safe on ceramic-coated paint?
Yes. The acid-free, pH-neutral chemistry will not strip or shorten the life of a ceramic coating. It is one of the few decontamination products specifically formulated for use over last-step products.

Does Iron Buster smell?
Yes, it has a distinctive sulfur-like odor when it reacts with iron particles. This is the chemistry working, not a defect. Use in a well-ventilated area, especially when treating heavily contaminated surfaces.

Can I use Iron Buster in a foam cannon?
Iron Buster is designed as a sprayer application. For maximum cling and dwell on vertical panels, use the ready-to-use spray bottle. Foam cannon use would dilute the product below effective strength.

How often should I decontaminate my paint with Iron Buster?
For most drivers, twice a year (spring and autumn) is enough to keep clear coat clean and ceramic coatings performing well. Vehicles driven on motorways or near industrial areas may benefit from quarterly decontamination.

Where is P&S made?
P&S Detail Products is manufactured in the USA by Appearance Technology Group (ATG). The Rag Company Europe is the official European distributor.
