P&S Rags to Riches — The Microfiber Detergent That Actually Restores Your Towels

P&S Rags to Riches is a next-generation microfiber laundry detergent engineered specifically for detailing towels, chamois, and all automotive-grade fabrics. Developed in collaboration with The Rag Company, it goes far beyond standard detergents — deep cleaning fibres while restoring the absorbency, softness, and colour that waxes, sealants, and polishes slowly destroy. Whether you're a professional detailer washing a daily pile of towels or an enthusiast protecting a single show car, Rags to Riches keeps your microfiber performing like new.

Why Detailers Trust P&S Rags to Riches

Removes hydrophobic contamination: Modern spray sealants, ceramic coatings, and quick detailers leave behind water-repelling chemistry that clogs microfiber fibres and causes smearing. Rags to Riches is specifically formulated to break down and flush these hydrophobic compounds — restoring true absorption where standard detergents fail.

Restores softness and absorbency: Over time, residue from polishes, waxes, and oils bonds deep into microfiber's split-fibre structure. Rags to Riches penetrates and lifts this build-up, leaving towels noticeably softer, brighter, and more effective after a single wash.

Highly concentrated formula: You only need 30–60ml per load. One bottle goes a long way, making Rags to Riches one of the most cost-effective microfiber wash solutions available — especially in the large 3.78L size for high-volume detailers.

Safe for all fibre types: Rags to Riches is safe on all textile types — microfiber, cotton, chamois, and other fabric blends. It contains no bleach, optical brighteners, or fabric softening agents that would compromise performance.

Compatible with all washing machines: Formulated for standard and high-efficiency (HE) washing machines, including front-loaders common in European homes and commercial laundry facilities. Low-foam formula prevents HE machine issues.

Developed alongside the world's leading microfiber brand: P&S and The Rag Company co-developed Rags to Riches specifically around the contamination challenges detailing towels face. This isn't a repurposed household product — it was built for our towels, from the ground up.

How to Use P&S Rags to Riches

  1. Sort your laundry. Wash microfiber separately from cotton items — cotton lint embeds in microfiber fibres and is very difficult to remove. Separate dark-coloured towels from light-coloured towels to avoid dye transfer.
  2. Check the soil level. For lightly soiled towels, proceed directly to the machine. For heavily soiled towels or those used with ceramic sprays, spray sealants, or wax products, go to step 3 first.
  3. Pre-soak (heavily soiled or hydrophobic towels). Fill a bucket with warm water and add 30–60ml of Rags to Riches. Submerge the towels and allow them to soak for 30–60 minutes. This breaks down hydrophobic residue before the wash cycle.
  4. Load the machine. Don't overfill — towels need room to move freely to clean properly. Add 30ml for a small or lightly soiled load, or 60ml for a large load. Pour directly into the detergent dispenser or drum.
  5. Select your settings. Use warm water (30–40°C is ideal). Do not use hot water — high temperatures can damage microfiber fibres over time. Select a normal wash cycle.
  6. Never use fabric softener. Fabric softener — liquid or any softening additive — coats fibres with a waxy residue that permanently reduces absorbency. Do not add it to any microfiber wash, ever.
  7. Dry carefully. Tumble dry on a low heat setting, or hang to dry. Do not iron. Avoid high heat, which can degrade the polyamide component of split microfiber over time.

Pro Tip: If your towels are still beading water after washing (hydrophobic), repeat the pre-soak step with fresh Rags to Riches solution. Towels with heavy ceramic or sealant contamination sometimes need two wash cycles to fully restore absorbency. Pair with our TRC Europe microfiber towels — engineered to the same standard that Rags to Riches was built to restore.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will P&S Rags to Riches work in my European front-loading washing machine?

Yes — Rags to Riches is specifically formulated for high-efficiency (HE) front-loaders, which are standard across European households and commercial laundries. The low-foam formula works correctly in HE machines without over-sudsing or leaving residue. Use the standard dosage of 30–60ml and select a warm water cycle for best results.

My microfiber towels have become water-repellent and are smearing. Can Rags to Riches fix this?

Almost certainly yes. Towels that bead water or smear instead of absorbing have typically been contaminated with hydrophobic chemistry from spray sealants, waxes, or ceramic coatings. Pre-soak the towels in warm water mixed with 30–60ml of Rags to Riches for 30–60 minutes, then run through a full warm machine wash. Repeat if necessary — most towels recover within one or two treatments.

Can I use Rags to Riches on non-microfiber items like cotton wash mitts or chamois?

Yes. Rags to Riches is safe on all textile types including cotton, chamois, and other fabric blends. However, always wash these separately from your microfiber items — cotton in particular sheds lint that embeds permanently into microfiber fibres and reduces their performance. Keep cotton and microfiber loads separate at all times.

How many washes can I get from one bottle?

At 30ml per load, the 946ml bottle gives you approximately 30 washes. The 3.78L size yields around 125 standard washes, making it excellent value for detailing businesses or anyone washing towels frequently. The highly concentrated formula means a little goes a long way — don't be tempted to over-pour, as excess surfactant can itself leave residue in fibres.

Is there anything I should never use with Rags to Riches?

Never use fabric softener or bleach alongside Rags to Riches — or in any microfiber wash at all. Fabric softener coats fibres with a silicone-based residue that counteracts everything Rags to Riches is designed to do, and the effect is largely permanent. Also avoid washing at high temperatures (above 60°C), which can damage the polyamide split fibres that give microfiber its performance characteristics.
